Commercial Downlight Square LED

The CDLSQ houses a spun aluminum reflector finished in a shadow-free haze that distributes light evenly while minimizing visible hot spots, set within a square trim ring finished in white. Square open and square wall wash trim shapes are available in two sizes, with mounting diameters scaled to each size for a clean, flush fit against the ceiling plane.

Installation is handled through durable spring clips that allow fast, tool-minimal flush mounting directly into an existing ceiling opening — well suited to remodel work where a new construction frame kit isn't practical. For ground-up construction, an optional new construction square frame kit can be ordered separately and installed ahead of drywall, with or without an integrated junction box and whip. The fixture is damp location listed, extending its use beyond dry interior ceilings alone.

The CDLSQ operates on field-selectable wattage output — 10/15/20W, 27/34/40W, or 40/50/60W depending on the output tier selected — at line voltages of 120–347V for the FS1, FS1C, and FS2 tiers and 120–277V for the FS3 tier, with a power factor greater than 0.9. Delivered lumens and efficacy scale with the selected wattage, ranging from roughly 800 to over 6,000 lumens at efficacies between 75 and 109 lm/W depending on output and trim configuration. Color temperature is field selectable across three settings per tier — 3000K/3500K/4000K for FS1, FS2, and FS3, or 3000K/4000K/5000K for FS1C — with a minimum CRI of 80. The fixture is 0-10V dimmable, dimming continuously down to 10% for the FS1, FS1C, and FS2 output tiers or down to 1% for the FS3 tier, with beam angles varying by trim from roughly 71° to 77° across the square open and wall wash configurations. 

Part of the Candela Lighting downlight family: The CDLSQ Commercial Downlight Square LED is the square-aperture companion to the CDL Commercial Downlight Round LED, sharing the same FS1, FS2, FS3, and FS1C output modules. Specifiers can combine round and square trims throughout a project while keeping light output and color temperature consistent from room to room.

Choosing an output tier: The CDLSQ's FS1 and FS1C tiers suit lower ambient lighting needs such as guest rooms, corridors, or accent applications, while FS2 steps up to typical open-office and retail illumination levels. FS3 is the highest-output tier and, on the CDLSQ, is available exclusively in the 6-inch square open trim. Matching the tier to the space avoids over- or under-lighting a ceiling plane and keeps energy use proportionate to the application.

Choosing a color temperature: Each output tier offers three field-selectable CCT settings, so the same fixture can be dialed toward a warmer, more residential feel or a cooler, more task-oriented feel without changing hardware. Warmer settings tend to suit hospitality and residential-adjacent spaces, while cooler settings are often preferred in retail and office environments where visual clarity is the priority.

New construction vs. remodel installation: The CDLSQ's spring-clip mounting allows it to be installed directly into an existing ceiling opening for remodel projects, with no frame kit required. For new construction, the optional square frame kit — available with or without an integrated junction box and whip — should be set ahead of drywall to establish the rough-in opening. Confirm which approach fits the project timeline before specifying accessories.

Dimming compatibility: The CDLSQ's 0-10V driver has confirmed compatibility with a range of commercial dimming and control systems, including Leviton IP710-DL and IP710-LF, Lutron PowPak 0-10V Dimming Module and Diva-Dvtv, Hubbell NX Distributed Room Controller, Cooper Greengate Room Controller, nLight nPP16D, and WattStopper DLM. Confirm dimmer compatibility with the project's electrical contractor prior to installation, particularly when specifying the FS3 tier's 1% dimming floor.

Emergency lighting option: For applications requiring code-compliant emergency egress lighting, an external 120-277V emergency LED driver can be added, providing up to 120 minutes of illumination in the event of a power failure. Emergency drivers are ordered as separate accessories and should be specified early in the project to confirm ceiling space and wiring requirements.

Ordering logic: The CDLSQ SKU follows the format CDLSQ-[Size]-[Trim]-[Output], for example CDLSQ-4-SO-FS1 for a 4-inch square open trim at the FS1 output tier. Frame kits and emergency drivers are ordered as separate accessory SKUs under the same CDLSQ family prefix.
